Mokalbari East sits on the south bank of the Brahmaputra in Upper Assam. The garden dates to 1876; the name comes from mokal (a thick native bamboo) and bari (garden). It is known for tippy golden orthodox leaf used in classic East Frisian breakfast cups.

This lot is a second-flush Assam: wiry dark leaf with gold tip, deep copper liquor, malt and cocoa up front, a little honeyed fruit and spice underneath. It is built for morning use. Drink it plain if you want the malt, or add milk and a little sugar the way Assam is still served in East Friesland.
